Conway Receives the “Big Check”
Rick Bean, Chairman of the Energy Committee and Selectman for the Town of Conway, and John P. O’Rourke, former Chairman of the Energy Committee and Chairman of the Board of Selectmen for the Town of Conway were invited to attend the “Big Check” event held at the Amherst Town Hall. The Town of Conway was given the “Big Check” in the amount of $139,650 for attaining the Green Community Designation.
The event was attended by State Representative Stephen Kulik, Energy, Environmental Affairs Secretary Richard K. Sullivan, Jr., Department of Energy Resources Commissioner Mark Sylvia, Deputy Director of the Green Communities Division Lisa Capone and Western Regional Coordinator for the Green Communities Division Jim Barry.
The Town of Conway is among 17 new municipalities designated as a Green Community. O’Rourke said “Rick Bean and the Energy Committee did an outstanding job in a very short time to fulfill the requirements of the Commonwealth to be designated a Green Community and receive a Green Communities Grant of $139,650.”
“We look forward to putting the Green Communities Grant to good use in energy conservation and energy resource development projects.” O’Rourke said
The designation not only places Conway among the 103 Green Communities in the Commonwealth but also demonstrates the strong commitment of Conway to energy conservation and renewable energy resources. O’Rourke said “The Energy Committee will continue it’s work to seek new opportunities to conserve energy and evaluate renewable energy projects.”
