Selectboard Open House Now is your chance! Come meet and talk to your Selectboard.
The Selectboard will be holding an open house at the Conway Grammar School Cafeteria on Tuesday, September 9th from 7:00 to 8:30PM. Please feel free to come and talk with us about Conway, your concerns, needs, wishes, and hopes for our town. You Board wants to hear from all residents and hope you will be able to take some time to let us know how we are doing. Plenty of convenient parking & Handicapped Accessible. Refreshments will be served.
Junk Cars Amnesty Program
The Town of Conway is instituting a new Junk Car Amnesty Program. Starting in June you will be able to get rid of that rotting car or truck that has been an eye-sore for you as long as you can remember. The Conway Selectboard is offering to remove your junk vehicle(s) as a way to re-enforce Article 32.5-1 of the Town’s Protective Bylaws that states that no one can have more than one unregistered vehicle if it is stored outside. Here is your chance to have that car removed for free and stay in compliance with town regulations at the same time. Even if you just want to get rid of a vehicle for any reason, the town will arrange to have it removed at no cost to you. This program will be in effect for a limited time so call the Town Office at 369-4235 x-3 and make arrangements today!
Foresty Updates
The Fournier woodlot
The forest management contract for the Fournier Lot was awarded to Bay State Forestry of Northfield MA. The forester is Michael Barry. A management plan for 2006 to 2015 is on file in the Town Office.
As of Jan 1, 2007, the marking of trees for a timber cut was nearly complete and plans were underway to put the timber out to bid. Michael Barry has met with representatives of the Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program. The proposed harvest meets and exceeds their recommendations to protect the rare species that have been observed on the property.
To minimize damage to our woods we will require a forwarder, with either mechanized felling or hand felling
Forestry is a long term investment. Immediately after the harvest the woods will be a mess. But we will soon see improvements in the forest health as well as to critical wildlife habitat.
This work will enhance the quality of our forest and provide a wide variety of benefits to forest plant and animal species.
Projected volume of timber to be cut is:
White Pine: 98,260 board feet
Hemlock: 85,175
Black Birch: 12,225
Red Maple: 4,825
Mixed other hdwd: 1,975
Firewood: 72 cds
Pulpwood: 59 cds

Timber cut on Town Farm
Timber on the Town Farm is currently being cut by Lashway Lumber. David Puffer is the logger. Mary Wigmore of Wigmore Forest Products is the forester. Progress is a bit slow because no work is being done on days went the ground is wet. The job should be completed by Spring. With a little luck the road and trails will be back in good shape by summer.
